One of the biggest question marks for Michigan football heading into Saturday's game against Michigan State is whether or not running back Justice Haynes will be available.

Haynes left the USC game with an injury. Sherrone Moore said he could have returned, but after being a game-time decision last week against Washington, Moore said that Haynes would practice this week.

According to Josh Henschke of Rivals, Haynes has been on the practice field this week. There haven't been any setbacks, but it appears as though Haynes will be a game-time decision for the second week in a row, although things are trending in the right direction.

Marlin Klein should be back in the lineup, yet there is no word on guys like Rod Moore, Bradyn Hillman, or Hogan Hansen, who each missed the Wasington game, too.

Michigan hockey shuts out the No. 2 Western Michigan

For the first time in 46 years, the Michigan Wolverines are 7-0 in hockey, following a dominant 4-0 victory over in-state foe Western Michgan, which was ranked No. 2 coming in.

It was the third win over a top-10 team already this season. Freshman goaltender Jack Ivankovic, an NHL draft pick already, turned away 32 shots on his way to his second shutout of the season.

With one of the best goalies in the country, at least it seems through seven games, the Michigan offense did the rest. Jayden Perron got the scoring started in the first period, before a power-play goal by Michael Hage made it 2-0 Wolverines after two periods.

Adam Valentini added a goal in the third period for Michigan hockey, as did Garrett Schifsky. Via Mgoblue: "Michigan finished the night with a commanding 41-17 advantage in faceoffs. Western held a slim 32-30 edge in shots on goal but couldn't solve Ivankovic as the Wolverines finished on top where it mattered most."

Michigan hockey had its run of three consecutive trips to the Frozen Four snapped in 2025, but the Wolverines look like a team that can make it back this spring, and maybe do some damage.

Michigan football news

Jim Harbaugh and J.J. McCarthy were reunited for a postgame handshake/hug after the Chargers beat the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday night. McCarthy didn't play. He's still been recovering from an injury he suffered earlier this season.

The Wolverines are gaining traction with a four-star center prospect, Sean Stover, who is committed to Duke. The blue-chip offensive line recruit said he was "fully committed" to the Blue Devils this week, but visited Michigan football last weekend, and said he has to think about his decision.

Which makes it sound like he's not all that committed. We shall see.
