What a night it was for the Michigan women's basketball team.

Kim Barnes Arico has been building something special in Ann Arbor. When she signed Syla Swords and Olivia Olson, it felt like the Michigan women's basketball program could take the next step.

In the third season with those players, Michigan has arrived. The Wolverines knocked off second-ranked UConn on Thursday night in the biggest win in program history. It was the third-ever top-five win for Michigan women's basketball.

Yet, the triumph over the Huskies represented the highest-ranked win in program history. Te'Yala Delfosse was a driving force with 22 points, nine rebounds, and four 3-pointers. Olson scored 19 points and grabbed eight boards, while Swords finished with 10. She connected on three 3-pointers, including two in the first half.

Geno Auriemma praised the Wolverines after the game, saying they are "really good." He also said the team is much more than Olson and Swords, as the Huskies found out.

"They have a team that's more than just Syla Swords and Olivia Olson," Auriemma said after the loss. "They are a really good team. It's one game for them, but they put themselves in a position, why can't we be a Final Four team? That certainly wasn't the case 10 years ago."

The fifth-ranked Wolverines are 1-0 on the season and should be moving up in the next AP poll. Michigan made the Elite 8 last season for the second time in school history.

No. 1 cornerback in 2028 to visit Michigan football

Nasir Richardson, who is the top-ranked cornerback in the 2028 recruiting class, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings, and Rivals, will be on campus for the Michigan-Michigan State game, according to Ethan McDowell of The Wolverine.

Michigan football is one of three teams listed as "warm" by 247 Sports in his recruitment. Penn State and Ohio State are the others. The 6-foot, 160-pounder is ranked ninth overall. Penn State has gotten Richardson on campus the most, but this is a key visit for the Wolverines.

Penn State leads via the Rivals Recruiting Prediction machine, but it only gives them a 33 percent chance so there is a long way to go in this recruitment. As much as Michigan football has struggled at times this season, the cornerback room has been legit. The pass defense, too.

So that could be a selling point to Richardson, even though the Kyle Whittingham era is off to a less-than-stellar start.

Michigan vs Michigan State Injury updates

The Thursday night injury report brought more good news for the Wolverines as Rod Moore, John Henry Daley, and Dominic Nichols have all been upgraded to probable from questionable. Brady Norton is listed as probable, too.

Shamari Earls was added to the injury report. He is now questionable for Saturday's game against Michigan State, along with tight end Hogan Hansen.

Michigan State quarterback, Alessio Milivojevic, is listed as questionable. Backup QB Cam Fancher has been ruled out.
