Ever since the decommitment of Brady Hart, Michigan football has been scrambling a bit in the 2026 recruiting class.

Hart was supposed to be the guy, but after the Michigan Wolverines flipped Bryce Underwood from LSU, Hart re-classified and signed with Texas A&M.

Michigan football has been involved with a few 2026 quarterbacks, but the board is starting to narrow, and it looks as though Brady Smigiel has emerged as the top target.

Smigiel is 6-foot-5, 205 pounds, and is ranked as the sixth-best quarterback in the 2026 class, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. He's ranked 62nd overall and has a crystal ball projection to Florida State.

However, Michigan football offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey has been putting in work on the recruiting trail. And now, the Michigan Wolverines are trending up with Smigiel, so much so that according to Adam Gorney and Josh Henschke of Rivals, Smigiel will visit Michigan football twice in the coming months, once for an unofficial visit and again for an official visit.

That's huge news for the Michigan Wolverines and comes on the same day that Michigan football was able to land the third commitment in the 2026 class from four-star offensive lineman Bear McWhorter.

After earning just a point on Thursday night against Ohio State on the ice thanks to a 2-1 overtime loss, Michigan hockey responded on Friday night with a 4-3 road win over eighth-ranked Ohio State.

Michigan got three goals in the second period, one from T.J. Hughes. Tyler Duke put the Wolverines in front with a goal in the second, while William Whitelaw added the other. Ohio State scored twice in the final frame, but goalie Logan Stein made 21 stops for the Michigan Wolverines, who wrapped up home-ice advantage for the Big Ten tournament.

The 11th-ranked Wolverines are still on the NCAA tournament bubble but can clinch a berth if they are able to win the Big Ten Hockey tournament once again.
