Michigan Wolverines news: Connor Stalions now coaching 5-star Bryce Underwood, more
The 2024 Michigan football season has proven to be an epic failure. The Wolverines might still qualify for a bowl game, but outside of upsetting Ohio State, this season will be one to forget.
Saturday's loss to Indiana, a game Michigan football easily could have won, especially without some of the coaching malpractice that went on, was a bitter pill to swallow.
But, the fans are trying to focus on the future which is why so many Michigan football fans are locked in on the recruitment of five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood. The Belleville, Michigan, standout is ranked No. 1 overall in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. He's also the top-ranked quarterback.
LSU landed his commitment in January. He visited Baton Rouge on Saturday night but the Tigers were destroyed by Alabama and LSU fans ended up throwing garbage on the field.
So, the reaffirmation of his commitment didn't exactly happen. Maybe it did behind the scenes. It will be interesting if there is any new intel this week, but on Sunday, CBS Sports reported that Connor Stalions, the former Michigan football staffer alleged of sign stealing, is now part of the Belleville coaching staff and helping to call plays.
I doubt that Underwood is going to flip because of Stalions. The $10 million Michigan football is reportedly offering probably will have a bigger role in that, but it can't hurt. Or maybe it can. Who knows, but this saga has taken another twist.
Michigan football projected to lose top-100 commitment to Alabama
While there has been plenty of positive news on the recruiting trail for Michigan football, the Michigan Wolverines got a bad sign on Sunday as Steve Wiltfong of On3.com projected Ivan Taylor, a top-100 defensive back committed to U-M, to flip to Alabama.
Taylor flipped from Notre Dame to Michigan over the summer, but Alabama has continued to make a push and it seems as though Taylor is finally about to flip. It would sting for Michigan football but at least the Wolverines were able to flip Shamari Earls from Georgia, giving them another top-100 defensive back to help make up for the loss of Taylor.
Former Michigan football coaches killing it
Jim Harbaugh and Jesse Minter have done wonders for the LA Chargers, who won their sixth game on Sunday. Hassan Haskins even had a touchdown run in the win over the Titans, who were held under 20 points, which is something the Chargers have done in all nine games this season -- hold opposing teams to 20 points or fewer.
The Steelers hit 20 on the dot in their win over the Chargers, but the fact that Minter's defense hasn't allowed a single team over 20 is incredible and proves again, he's one of the best defensive play callers on the planet -- and he's doing it without a single sign.
Also, C.J. Stroud lost another game to a team from Michigan, is anyone surprised?
