Michigan football beat Alabama earlier this week to close out the 2024 regular season. The Michigan Wolverines finished 8-5 and now the focus turns to the rest of the offseason.

The Wolverines still have work to do in the transfer portal. Activity should start ramping up this week as the dead period is over and players can take visits again.

There are still a few days for Michigan football players to exit via the transfer portal too. Players have five days after their season is over to enter and one player took advantage of that on Wednesday as Kody Jones, a former four-star defensive back entered the portal.

The 5-foot-11 defensive back didn't play much in his three seasons with the Michigan Wolverines. He also didn't make much of an impact during the ReliaQuest Bowl, which probably had him seeing the writing on the wall.

A decision from top transfer portal target is coming soon

Fa'alili Fa'amoe is the No. 2 offensive tackle according to the 247 Sports transfer portal rankings. The 6-foot-5, 318-pounder is ranked No. 21 among all players in the portal. Michigan football is a finalist for his commitment and among the top two according to EJ Holland of The Wolverine.

Nebraska is the other program in the mix. Holland reports that a decision could come as soon as this week but that the Huskers appear to have a slight edge.

That would fill a huge need to and with the way Andrew Sprauge played in the ReliaQuest Bowl, the Wolverines could feel really good about offensive tackle. They could probably even more Evan Link inside to guard, where i think he would excel.

A potential starting five of Sprague, Giovanni El-Hadi, Greg Crippen, Evan Link, and Fa'amoe sounds alright to me and certainly seems like it would be an upgrade from last season.

Michigan Wolverines women's basketball falls to No. 1 UCLA

The 24th-ranked Michigan women's basketball had to face a second top-5 opponent on the road this week as they took on the UCLA Bruins on New Year's Day but were defeated 86-70 by the unbeaten Bruins.

Michigan was competitive throughout. The Wolverines trailed by 11 at the half but cut the lead to seven going into the fourth quarter before the Bruins pulled away with 29 points in the final stanza.

Syla Swords was stellar in her return to the lineup scoring 30 points on 11-of-25 shooting. She made four 3-pointers. Olivia Olson added 17 points and six rebounds, while Jordan Hobbs tacked on 10 points and five rebounds.

Next up is Ohio State next Wednesday at home.
