After the spring, you always see all sorts of rankings coming but the latest head coach rankings released by CBS Sports are a disgrace to Sherrone Moore.

The Michigan football head coach has a lot to prove. I get that. But he's always won four games against teams ranked in the top 15.

Two of those were as the interim head coach under Jim Harbaugh. Still, Moore was the acting head coach for one of the most important editions of "The Game" ever and still beat Ryan Day.

Michigan football finished strong in 2025

Then, Moore won with a 6-5 team against the second-ranked Buckeyes in Columbus. Despite the 8-5 record, which includes a win over Alabama in the bowl game, without almost all of his 2025 NFL draft picks, the Michigan head coach is better than the 58th-best head coach in college football, which is where he was ranked by a panel of CBS Sports analysts.

Moore was ranked behind guys Jonathan Smith of Michigan State (49th), Luke Fickell of Wisconsin (40th), Matt Rhule (32nd), and even Rich Rodriguez.

That's a low blow and really hard to understand. There's no way that Michigan would trade West Virginia for its head coach. Sherrone Moore doesn't deserve to be among the top 10, yet, but he's proven to be a solid recruiter, signing a top-10 class in his first season as head coach, despite getting hired late in the process.

Moore is also 2-0 against Ohio State, 1-0 against Michigan State, Penn State, USC, and Alabama. There have been some tough losses and rough moments in that first season, but after the 5-5 start, Moore found his stride and beat two top-15 teams, including the natonal champion on the road, with Davis Warren as his starting quarterback.

That's a damn-good coaching job in my book. Moore won more games overall, than Rhule in either of his first two seasons at Nebraska. Moore also has beat two ranked teams -- Rhule hasn't beaten one, at least as the head coach of the Cornhuskers.

Luke Fickell deserves some credit for his time at Cincinnati but the Wisconsin Badgers were terrible last season. Rich Rod maybe deserved this ranking before he came to Michigan the first time.

But these rankings are insane, especially for Sherrone Moore.
