College football fans got some exciting news on Thursday, as Yahoo Sports announced a new form of fantasy football focused on college players.

Just like NFL fantasy football, fans will be able to select players to have on their roster, along with a team offense. College fantasy football has been around, but Yahoo is reimagining it in a way that could be really fun for college football fans.

Yahoo will allow users to draft players on Power-4 teams. Rosters will be 18, and in addition to having say the Michigan offense on your team, you could have Bryce Underwood as your team's starting quarterback.

Bryce Underwood could be a fantasy football steal

And based on the rules, or if they are anything like normal fantasy football, where you get credit for passing yards, rushing yards, receiving yards, and touchdowns, then the Michigan football starter could be a steal.

Fans might be skeptical about that. However, there are multiple reasons why Underwood could help a college fantasy football team excel.

For one, a big key in fantasy football is finding good value in the draft. The quarterback position usually offers good value. Underwood averaged 218 total yards per game last season. He averaged just over 30 on the ground. Those are valuable points, and all offseason, Michigan head coach Kyle Whittingham and OC Jason Beck have talked about him running the ball more.

Michigan's wide receiver room has been upgraded. The offensive line, after starting and returning three redshirt freshmen last season, should be even better.

Beyond all that, Underwood should be a better player just based on having more experience. Whether fans believe that or not, the former five-star recruit will make for a great buy-low candidate.

Underwood should increase his passing yards, passing touchdowns, rushing yards, and rushing touchdowns this season; however, he will get drafted based more on what he did last season, not what he will do with 13 starts under his belt, and a new offensive coordinator, who has a track record of strong QB development.

Even if the passing numbers don't drastically improve, Underwood should run the ball much more this season. He should also be more effective. You could tell in the Ohio State game that Underwood wasn't comfortable running the zone read, in part, because it was run so little.

Plays were there to be made, but Underwood couldn't make the decisive reads that were needed. That should be different this season in the running and passing game.

At worst, Underwood could be a decent backup. Or, he will provide high-end starter value at a fraction of the cost.
