After what some would say was a less-than-stellar freshman season from Michigan quarterback Bryce Underwood, it seems he has received quite a bit of criticism this offseason. The loudest criticism certainly came from former Utah legend under Kyle Whittingham, Eric Weddle, who practically said he wouldn't be surprised if he saw the backup QB playing for Michigan early in the season.

The 2025 season was a bit more than Underwood probably thought it would be, and his numbers proved that. While he completes over 60% of his passes, Underwood had just 2,428 passing yards, 11 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. Now, Underwood did use his legs effectively, running the ball 88 times for 392 yards and six touchdowns.

While Underwood was tagged with being the savior for the Michigan offense, he isn't working alone. In fact, fellow freshman Andrew Marsh, one of Underwood's wide receivers, broke out onto the scene for the Wolverines this past season and even ended up leading the team with 651 receiving yards and four touchdowns.

Marsh and Underwood have been working out a lot more this offseason, working to build a connection, and the young pass-catcher isn't paying any attention to what anyone else has to say about his quarterback.

"I mean, as a receiver, you can't ask for much more," Marsh said. "To be honest, he's probably the best quarterback I've ever played with."

Andrew Marsh and Bryce Underwood are determined to be a dynamic duo at Michigan

With one year under their belts, Underwood and Marsh truly know what to expect when it comes to taking the field in college football. It is not the same as in high school, and even though Marsh hasn't probably played with too many quarterbacks, he gave Underwood some serious praise.

Saying Underwood is probably the best quarterback he has played with, Marsh is also building up his teammate, instead of tearing him down like so many others have this offseason. The Weddle comments have been a main point of focus in terms of the media talking about Michigan, but Marsh is more focused on him and Underwood being one of the best duos in the Big Ten.

"It's super important. I mean, without him, there's no receiver. Without me, there's no quarterback," Marsh said. "So I feel like at the end of the day, we're a good combo,"

Michigan will be in a new offensive set this season under new offensive coordinator Jason Beck. Michigan's new play-caller came to Ann Arbor with Whittingham from Utah, where he spent the last two seasons. Now, Beck and Whittingham are known to favor the run game, but if Underwood and Marsh can become an unstoppable duo, don't be surprised to see more of a passing game this season from Michigan.

The players have brought into what Beck has to offer as the offensive coordinator, and even feel like a balanced attack is coming to Michigan with him.
