With a new coaching staff, a new offensive coordinator, and Bryce Underwood playing quarterback, Michigan football started to become an attractive place for wide receivers.
The Wolverines have some strong targets on the board in the 2027 class, some that will be visiting this spring. They also landed some talented players in the 2026 class, as well as in the portal.
Travis Johnson is a top-125 recruit overall, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. Salesi Moa was ranked in the top-100, too.
So it shouldn't be a surprise to see Michigan football quickly jump into the mix for Gavin Honore, a three-star wideout who just decommitted from the Bulldogs. At 5-foot-10, 170 pounds, Honore would fill a huge need at slot receiver. He's also out of powerhouse Bishop Gorman.
The offer sheet is impressive for the dynamic recruit out of Las Vegas, who is probably better than his ranking of No. 540 overall in the 2027 class. That's according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. Kentucky, Texas, Texas Tech, and Vanderbilt are some of the recent offers.
Yet, after his decommitment from the Georgia Bulldogs earlier this week, Michigan football is "prioritizing" Honore, according to Ethan McDowell of The Wolverine.
Georgia decommitment would will a glaring need for Michigan football
Of all the wideouts that Michigan signed as recruits, or in the portal (JJ Buchanan, Salesi Moa, and Jaime Ffrench), none are the true slot type. That's Honore. He's got sub-100 speed in the 100, running a 10.83 in 2025 as a sophomore.
That's exactly the kind of slot receiver Michigan needs. Adding that kind of speed is never a bad thing, either, which is probably why he's become a priority quickly for the Wolverines.
