Michigan QB commit on 'flip watch' with Virginia Tech and Penn State making a move

Michigan's recruiting classes continue to be picked apart by the vultures of other programs amid the Sherrone Moore scandal.

The Michigan Wolverines football program has certainly been through the wringer in the last week. It all started with the sudden firing of head coach Sherrone Moore, followed by his arrest and being charged with three different crimes, and now Michigan has no head coach and is losing recruits and players left and right.

The next player to potentially decide to flee from the Wolverines is 2027 quarterback commit Peter Bourque. The four-star 2027 prospect committed to the Wolverines back in August, but since the firing of Moore, both Virginia Tech and Penn State are showing some serious interest.

When deciding on his commitment, Bourque picked Michigan over Penn State initially, but that was back when James Franklin was still with the Nittany Lions. So, that explains how Virginia Tech is now in the mix with Franklin being hired on with the Hokies.

Bourque has received a new offer from Penn State head coach Matt Campbell, as well as one from Franklin at Virginia Tech. Bourque is the No. 85 player in the Class of 2027, the No. 6 quarterback in the class, and the No. 1 player in the state of Massachusetts, according to 247Sports Composite.

Now, not all hope is lost for Michigan when it comes to this highly-rated quarterback recruit. With Bourque being in the Class of 2027, he has a lot of time to make his decision, and he could choose to see what happens in Ann Arbor before fleeing for another school.

Michigan seems to say that they are working to get a guy in the building very soon, but it is hard to think about who it could be. The Wolverines were very late to the game of head coaching hires, and all the top prospects have either been locked into new deals at their current program or already in a new job somewhere else.

It seems like the top two candidates Michigan is going after are Alabama's Kalen DeBoer and Arizona State's Kenny Dillingham. DeBoer has repeatedly talked about how much he loves Alabama and has no plans on leaving, while Dillingham is giving some mixed signals.
