Michigan has been called EDGE U with so many of its alums moving on and having success in the NFL at that position.
Aidan Hutchinson, maybe the best pure pass rusher in the NFL, is a Michigan football alum. Derrick Moore has also looked promising early in his NFL career.
At any rate, Michigan has become known for its ability to develop EDGE prospects. After Saturday's win over Oklahoma, it looks like that will continue under Kyle Whittingham.
That's why it should come as no surprise that the top-ranked player in Indiana for the 2028 class, a four-star EDGE from Fort Wayne, Javonte Eldridge, is now trending to the Wolverines.
Michigan football impressed 4-star EDGE from Indiana
The Wolverines are in a strong position to land two other 2028 pass rushers, Asa Burch and Major Stokes. Burch is a Michigan football legacy who is from Ohio. He's been projected to commit to the Wolverines. Stokes has, too. He's the top-ranked player in Utah in the 2028 recruiting class.
Eldridge has drawn heavy interest from local programs such as Indiana, the defending national champions, and Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish have hosted him for four visits, while Indiana has had the in-state prospect on campus twice.
Eldridge visited Michigan for the first time during the Oklahoma game. Yet, it feels like Michigan knocked it out of the park, something that Steve Wiltfong, a naitonal recruiting analyst for Rivals, confirmed when he logged an expert projection in favor of the Wolverines.
Michigan now has a 95 percent chance to land the commitment of Eldridge via the Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine.
At 6-foot-4, 225 pounds, Eldridge is ranked No. 219 overall, according to Rivals. He's also the top-ranked player in the state of Indiana, which would be a nice feather in the cap of Whittingham. The Wolverines also landed a blue-chip pass rusher from the Hoosier State in the 2027 class, too: Ifeanyi Emedobi.
Whittingham's first recruiting class has been solid, especially since he didn't have the same amount of time to build relationships with 2027 recruits. Michigan is still aiming to flip some in the 2027 class, but looking ahead to 2028, things are looking promising.
There is some work to do with in-state prospects. The offense really needs to get going if they are going to have any shot at Dakota Guerrant or Deandre Bidden.
However, the Wolverines are loading up on defense, especially at EDGE.
