Michigan is known as EDGE U, and Detroit Lions rookie Derrick Moore offered up a reminder of why on Saturday in an NFL preseason game for the Detroit Lions.

Moore was a perfect fit for Detroit. The Lions have needed a dynamic pass rusher to play with consistency opposite Aidan Hutchinson.

The Lions had success with Hutch as the No. 2 overall pick, and it seems like they have struck gold again with Moore, a Michigan football rookie selected in the second round of the 2026 NFL draft.

Moore showed why on Saturday, notching a sack and two forced fumbles in the Lions' 17-13 win over the Commanders. Moore, who was selected as the No. 44 overall pick, seems ready to contribute right away for the Lions, who could use a boost on the defensive line, especially the pass rush.

Throughout his Michigan football career, Moore was a disruptive force. He finished with 95 tackles (62 solo) in addition to 24.5 tackles for loss and 21 sacks, including 10 as a senior. Moore also played a key role on Michigan's national title team as a sophomore, as well as posting a 3-1 record against Ohio State.

Rayshaun Benny is another who had a solid career with Michigan. He fell farther than he should have in the NFL draft, to the seventh round. The Ravens, coached by Michigan DC Jesse Minter, drafted him.

On Saturday, Benny continued to make a case for being on the 53-man roster as the Ravens defensive lineman registered a sack in Baltimore's win over Minnesota. Benny finished his Michigan football career with 107 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, and four sacks.

After a solid showing against the Eagles in the first preseason game, it felt like Benny was a decent bet to make the Ravens' 53-man roster. After producing a sack against Minnesota, it's hard not to see him making it now. If he did happen to get cut, he would surely garner interest from other NFL teams, especially because he's known more as a run defender than a pass rusher.

It always felt like Benny never reached his full potential in Ann Arbor. He was dominant at times, especially in the run game. He felt like a steal in the seventh round of the draft, just based on what's he capable of, and so far in his NFL career, the Michigan national champion has shown that.
