With the way everything has transpired this week, saying things have been hectic would be an understatement for Michigan. However, with Sherrone Moore fired, the Wolverines have done their best to move quickly in finding a suitable replacement.
New report dumps cold water on the Kenny Dillingham-Michigan rumors
Kenny Dillingham was at the top of the list for a lot of people, but all signs are pointing to him agreeing to a new deal with Arizona State. Once that happens, it will eliminate him from the board in terms of Michigan targets. So, who will Michigan turn to next?
Kalen DeBoer has also been mentioned as a top candidate, but everything seems to indicate that he's happy in Tuscaloosa. Could that change if Alabama loses to Oklahoma in the first round of the Playoff? Maybe. However, as things stand, it's now starting to feel like Jedd Fisch might be in the driver's seat to be given the job, though his name doesn't provide a ton of excitement for a ton of fans.
Jedd Fisch rumors keep coming up for the Michigan head coach search
Fisch of course is no stranger to Ann Arbor, as he was once on Jim Harbaugh's staff as a quarterbacks and wide receivers coach, while also serving as the passing-game coordinator. Since then, he has been a head coach at both Arizona and Washington.
He's just in his second season with the Huskies, but could he end up making the move to a different Big Ten program? That's something that's now on the table after Moore was fired with cause. Michigan just put together a spectacular 2026 class, but due to the coaching change, those players can request to be released from their NLI. That's why it's so important for Michigan to make a new hire soon.
While Fisch is a respected coach, he doesn't scream excitement for the fanbase. He most certainly would not provide the kind of splash that a move for DeBoer or Dillingham would. However, with Dillingham getting ready to put the pen to paper on a new deal and DeBoer eyeing a deep run in the CFP, Michigan may have no choice but to settle for Fisch - if he's open to leaving Seattle that is.
