Michigan has shown a commitment to the run game with the commitments it has gained from running backs, but also the offers they are extending. Michigan fans will finally get to see five-star recruit Savion Hiter on the field this year, but also excited for four-star running back Tyson Robinson coming to Ann Arbor in 2027.
Those two running backs are enough to have Michigan fan giddy, but now head caoch Kyle Whittingham and running backs coach Tony Alford are after even more talk in the run game. one of the next targets for Michigan is four-star running back Xander Edwards, son of former Notre Dame and NFL fullback Marc Edwards, who spent nine seasons in the pros and even won a Super Bowl with the New England Patriots in 2001.
Xander is already ready to see Michigan after receiving an offer from the Wolverines. Edwards is the No. No 117 recruit in the Class of 2028, the No. 7 running back in the class, and the No. 17 player in the state of Florida, according to 247Sports Composite rankings.
"I am so grateful and blessed for Coach Alford giving me this opportunity and believing in me," Edwards said about his offer from Michigan.

Michigan will have a lot of work to do in order to land 4-star RB Xander Edwards
Edwards is already a popular recruit in the Class of 2028, landing 37 offers so far, but the biggest opponent for Michigan in this recruitment will probably be Notre Dame. Edwards is a legacy recruit for the Irish as his father, Marc, played for Notre Dame back in the mid-90s.
Alford has proven that he can lure great running back talent to Michigan, and Edwards could be another example of that. Clearly, Edwards is excited about upcoming trips to Ann Arbor, even with all the offers he has received so far.
Edwards impressed majorly in his sophomore season at The Bolles School in Jacksonville, Florida, rushing for 2,629 yards and 44 rushing touchdowns. Edwards also played a small part in the receiving game, with 17 receptions for 211 yards, but with his running ability, it is hard to keep it out of his hands in the backfield.
Now, Edwards has the task of trying to duplicate that amazing season for the next two years, which could be tough, but it is clear the talent is there. With Hiter on the field for Michigan this season and Robinson coming in 2027, Edwards could be the next great running back talent for the Wolverines in 2028.
Whittingham and Alford must make Edwards a priority target, though, if they want to keep him away from his father's Alma Mater because Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman has proven to be an elite recruiter as well.
