As most of you know by now, it's officially 'flip season' in college football recruiting and this means Michigan and Kyle Whittingham are working overtime to make a splash. Does this mean some rough news is coming for a Big Ten rival?

Michigan winning the title could lead to a 5-star favor for Kyle Whittingham

There are signs, as Michigan hasn't stopped its recruiting efforts with 4-star quarterback Kamden Lopati. In a major twist to things, Lopati, who has been committed to the Fighting Illini since last July, is now heavily favored to commit to Michigan via the On3 prediction machine. Yup, this is something for Michigan fans to keep a close eye on moving forward, as the 90.9 percent figure is hard to ignore.

This would be huge for Michigan for several reasons. For starters, there was recent buzz that Notre Dame and Marcus Freeman were giving the young signal-caller a lot to think about. However, after a recent visit to Ann Arbor, it seems like Michigan has been able to pass the Irish a bit.

Lopati picked up more than 20 offers throughout his recruitment, surprising plenty of people when he originally committed to Illinois. However, as we previously mentioned, teams have not stopped working their magic in trying to pull off a flip, with Michigan really being aggressive.

What helps here is that Lopati and his family have plenty of familiarity with Whittingham and his staff, as they previously recruited him when they were still at Utah. That seems to be helping right now, as plenty of eyes are going to be on him making a new decision sooner rather than later.

Per the 247Sports Composite, Lopati is ranked four stars, the No. 9 quarterback in the country and No. 122 prospect overall for the 2027 class. Whittingham has five known pledges for the '27 haul, but it's now looking like that number could group to six in the near future. Is breaking Lopati news around the corner? It very well could be, as On3 has dropped quite the hint.
