Michigan football suffered a decommitment in the 2027 class earlier this week and the Wolverines are already trending to fill that spot.

Three-star offensive tackle Sydney Rouleau, who was committed to the Wolverines since last May, reopened his recruitment after some official visits to other programs. He committed to Syracuse this week, but his replacement could be coming soon.

That left opened up a need for an offensive tackle. Ethan McDowell of The Wolverine reported that Michigan football was seeking multiple O-line recruits before signing day.

Now, it seems like one recent offeree of the program is close to flipping. Three-star offensive tackle Braden Chaffin, who is from Sterling Heights, Michigan, has been committed to Stanford. Yet, the Wolverines offered the 6-foot-6, 290-pound offensive tackle recently, which might have been connected to the way things were going with Rouleau, a much higher-rated recruit from Texas.

Either way, Rouleau is out of the picutre and Chaffin is on campus this weekend for an offiical visit, which seems to be going really well, according to a new trend of expert predictions.

Greg Biggins and Allen Trieu, two recruiting experts for Rivals, have each logged predictions with the Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine for the Wolverines to land the in-state offensive tackle, who said the offer from Michigan football was a "dream," according to Michigan on SI.

Chaffin is ranked No. 1,545 overall, according to the Rivals Industry Rankings for the 2027 class. The three-star prospect is rated 109th at his posiition (offensive tackle) and is 26th in the state of Michigan.

Michigan's 2027 recruting class is ranked 16th overall, according to the 247 Sports team rankings. They have 22 commiitments total, but it feels like the 23rd commitment could be coming soon. Chaffin isn't someone Michigan fans should expect to play.

He's a developmental prospect, but in this new world of NIL, you can't pay big money to everyone on your roster. You need to find some diamonds in the rough. Chaffin seems like a decent candidate for that, especially after the recent decommitment.
