Michigan football had a dozen recruits in the 2026 class on campus for official visits this past weekend and some intel is starting to come in.

Michigan has made some progress with top targets, including a four-star linebacker that the Wolverines are battling Oregon, Alabama, and Georgia to land.

Another top target that Michigan football made progress with this past weekend was four-star defensive back Donovan Webb.

The 6-foot, 182-pounder plays safety. He's described in his 247 Sports scouting report as a "ballhawk."

Michigan 'at the top' for blue-chip DB as commitment date looms

Webb had over 100 tackles in consecutive seasons to go along with 19 pass breakups and nine interceptions. He's out of Frisco, Texas. He's ranked No. 344 overall, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings for the 2026 class. Webb is ranked 29th among safeties, too.

Before Michigan football, Webb visited Ohio State. His next visit will be at Notre Dame before a scheduled commitment announcement on July 2nd.

Webb is also described as "highly competitive" and sounds like a perfect fit for the Michigan defense. Following his visit, Webb told Sam Spiegelman of Rivals, "Michigan has always been at the top of my list. I don't see that changing."

The Wolverines went into the weekend with a slight lead, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediciton Machine, which gives Michigan a 21 percent chance to land Webb in the 2026 class.

There aren't any crystal ball projections or expert projections from On3 for Webb yet. Notre Dame has about a 10 percent chance, so the Irish are probably the biggest threat. Colorado and Kansas State got official visits, too, along with Ohio State.

With the new House settlement, Michigan should be able to get more aggressive on the recruiting trail, and it feels like they are the leader with Webb just weeks before his commitment.
