Michigan haters blasting refs for gifting Kyle Whittingham a win, and they might be right

It doesn't take much to bring out the Michigan haters, but when it's a controversial call that changes the outcome of a game, they come out loaded for bear. Unfortunately, they might have a case this time.

It is only Week 1, and we already had a wild ending to a game, and who would have thought it would come in Michigan's matchup against Western Michigan. Fans were hoping for a nice blowout win, probably hoping to leave the game and get to bed early, but instead the Wolverines took it all the way to the wire -- but if you ask some, after the wire.

The clock struck zero, and Michigan was down 12-7 and facing a huge upset loss to Western Michigan, one that would almost certainly drop them in the Top 25 rankings. Of course, with a controversial call like this, all the Michigan haters are coming out of the woodwork saying the refs gifted this win to Michigan, and I can't lie, I kind of agree with them.

Even Whittingham knew there wasn't time left on the clock, admitting it to Western Michigan head coach Lance Taylor. When Whittingham can admit it, you know that it was a call that shouldn't have been made.

It is not like Whittingham and his team went crying to the refs about putting a second back on the clock, but they certainly weren't fighting against it either. Why would they?

There was no cheating here; the refs made this call, and while I believe it was the wrong one, it's not like Michigan was campaigning for it either.

Let's face it, that money is going towards paying Bryce Underwood's insane NIL package -- whether he deserves it or not. The haters can keep coming at Michigan, but in the end, the second was added on, and the Wolverines still had to make the play -- and did. Hats off to Michigan, and now it is on to Oklahoma; a game will almost certainly be tougher than this.
