Michigan football was in the mix to land CJ Carr, the grandson of Lloyd Carr, who is now the starting quarterback for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

However, that just wasn't meant to be. But his younger brother, Tommy Carr, will be coming to Ann Arbor to play college football after flipping his commitment from Miami (OH) on Sunday to the Wolverines.

The 6-foot-4, 195 pound quarterback from Saline, Michigan, has only been offered by MAC programs, until Michigan football extended an offer, which led to Carr flipping his commitment weeks before early signing day.

Carr is ranked No. 964 overall in the 2026 class, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. He's ranked 49th among quarterbacks, although 247 Sports has a much higher opinion of him in its own rankings, placing Carr 29th among signal-callers.

Despite Power-4 teams not showing much interest, 247 Sports scouting report talks about Carr as a potential NFL draft prospect down the road, who has the ability to become a Power-4 starter.

With Brady Smigiel, the Wolverines other 2026 quarterback recently suffering a serious injury, it's not a bad idea to have another quarterback to develop for the future. It's not just a legacy commitment either. Carr could develop into a solid backup over the next two seasons, and maybe even compete for the job post Bryce Underwood.

Michgan hockey splits with Penn State

In a battle of top-5 hockey teams on Friday, the Michigan Wolverines destroyed Penn State by a score of 7-1, thanks to first-period goals from Josh Eernisse, Wil Horcoff, and Nick Moldenhauer.

Early in the second period, Garrett Schifsky made it 4-0 Michigan before the Wolverines surrendered a goal late in the second stanza. Three more goals put the game away in the third as Adam Valentini, TJ Hughes and Cole McKinney all found the back of the net. Jack Ivankovic notched 26 saves.

On Saturday, Penn State got its revenge with a 4-2 win. That dropped the second-ranked Wolverines to 4-2 in the Big Ten after splits with Penn State and Wisconsin, but a sweep over Notre Dame. Horcoff scored his 13th goal, which leads NCAA hockey, in the loss. Jayden Perron added the other.
