Michigan football didn't have a great day on the field Saturday, but that doesn't always mean that much from a recruiting perspective.

Regardless of the outcome on Saturday, a 27-9 loss to Ohio State, Michigan football is rolling on the recruiting trail following the commitment of four-star EDGE Recarder Kitchen, a 6-foot-6, 240-pounder from Muskegon, Michigan. He's an elite prospect, ranked No. 110 overall in the 2027 class, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings, and he pledged to U-M on Sunday afternoon.

Michigan football has recruiting momentum

One of the best pass rushers in the entire 2027 class is ranked second in the state of Michigan in the 2027 class. So it's a huge victory for the Wolverines, who have put together a couple of strong classes in a row together on the defensive line.

Kitchen makes it three classes in a row with an EDGE ranked in the top 110 overall. He's also the second commitment the day after "The Game," as four-star cornerback Jamarion Vincent, who is ranked No. 168 overall in the 2026 class, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings, also flipped his commitment to Michigan.

Some of the other top programs on his offer sheet were USC, Texas A&M, Notre Dame, Penn State, Tennessee, Illinois, Indiana, Louisville, Missouri, and others. He sounds like a perfect fit and has proven production at the high school level in terms of sacks and pressures.

While Michigan football fans are right to be nervous about the future following the loss to Ohio State, the best way to compete with the Buckeyes is by recruiting elite talent. The Wolverines were able to do that with two top-200 commitments in two classes on Sunday.
