Michigan football is entering the final week of spring practice, however, that might not be the most important thing happening this week for the Wolverines.

The spring transfer portal opens on Wednesday. It's another chance for Michigan football to add to its roster, especially at positions like wide receiver or offensive tackle.

At this point, the defense seems set. Maybe Michigan football could use another cornerback, but with the emergence of freshman Shamari Earls, that doesn't feel like its needed.

So the focus is going to be on wide receivers and offensive tackles. There was one offensive tackle that we think could be a fit, but there should be others, and according to Pete Nakos of On3.com, Michigan football is expected to be a "top buyer" during the spring window.

We'll see what that means, but the focus for Michigan football should be to make things easier for Bryce Underwood if possible and surrounding him with more talent is essential.

Michigan football misses on an in-state recruit

Momentum has stalled for Michigan football on the recruiting trail. Notre Dame is now projected to land the elite running back Javian Osborne. The running back from Texas felt like a Michigan lean not long ago, but Notre Dame has surged ahead.

The Wolverines still have time to turn things around. However, with four-star offensive lineman Gregory Patrick, Michigan football has run out of time. The 6-foot-5, 275-pound offensive tackle is ranked No. 174 overall in the 2026 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.

Patrick committed to Notre Dame on Sunday. Michigan was scheduled to have an official visit this June. That's off the table, and it feels like the Wolverines need to start closing out commitments. Momentum is needed.
