All Michigan did this past Saturday night was take care of business against the New Mexico Lobos, 34-17. Yet, in the latest AP Top 25 Poll, Michigan dropped a spot from No. 14 to 15th. Florida State, which started the season unranked, beat then eighth-ranked Alabama 31-17. Nobody is taking away the dominant win from the Seminoles, but it's already feeling like Michigan is being overlooked.

Michigan football drops in AP Poll

The Wolverines were one of five teams (SMU, Indiana, Texas Tech, and Arizona State being the others) that dropped at least a spot after Week 1. Meanwhile, Ohio State is the new No. 1 after its 14-7 victory over Texas. Penn State stayed put at No.2. Oregon moved up a spot to sixth and even got a first-place vote. The Fighting Illini moved up a spot to No. 11 after beating (checks notes) Western Illinois 52-3. Other Big Ten schools, USC, and Nebraska received votes for the Top 25.

Bryce Underwood did more in his first game as a Wolverine than all the Quarterbacks did all season last year, but that seemingly doesn't matter. Another player who made his Michigan football debut, Justice Haynes, an Alabama transfer, had 16 carries for 159 yards and three touchdowns. May I add he averaged 9.9 yards a carry? But because it's Michigan and the narrative is that they played a "nobody," they get pushed down a spot for no good reason.

Here's a link to the complete Week 1 AP Poll. Michigan football will take on 18th-ranked Oklahoma on Saturday night.
