The Michigan spring game left a lot of questions still to be answered for Wolverine fans, as do all spring games for all college football fans. However, in Ann Arbor, fans are still wondering what is going to happen with their 5-star quarterback. Will he be the Week 1 starter? Does he have what it takes?
All these questions were not something that was going to be answered in a spring game. However, while Underwood had an up-and-down day in the Big House, as was expected for a 17-year-old who has only been with the team for a few months, he still put out a respectable stat line.
The Bryce Underwood era is officially underway in Ann Arbor〽️

Underwood was 12 of 26 for 187 yards with a scrimmage-ending, 88-yard pass to TE Jalen Hoffman on a reverse flea-flicker in a 17-0 win for the Blue over the Maize. pic.twitter.com/MSEj72vbwV
While Underwood's stat line may not look the best, let's all remember that this was the spring game, and nothing ever really looks amazing in the spring game.
While some fans were enamored by Underwood's ability, some are still questioning how good Underwood truly is.
17 year old high school kid Bryce Underwood scored 17 points against Michigans defense yesterday. 23 year old 5th year senior Will Howard scored 10. How is this a bad thing?

Proving Underwood's ability while also making fun of Ohio State at the same time...yes please!
Bryce Underwood, after 15 practices, only went 12-27 for 186 yards and 1 TD and 1 INT against Michigan’s defense and is being scrutinized.

Reminder, the quarterback for last year’s national champions went 19/33 for only 175 yards, 1 TD and 2 INTs against Michigan’s defense. https://t.co/eRJQXfm4V7
Michigan's defense is something to talk about, and the fact that Underwood was able to score 17 points on them is truly saying something about his talent.
It's a Bryce Underwood world, and we are all just living in it. https://t.co/I6fFVw8eSh

This was a really great play by the young star.
Well, Bryce Underwood has a lot to work on, that’s for sure. Strong arm, can move around, but he’s not freshman Trevor Lawrence, not even close. As for Jadyn Davis—no hope. Terrible. Small, weak arm. Mikey Keene may still end up the starter. Michigan spring game. pic.twitter.com/P78BFtmRPS

Let's not forget the kid is 17 years old, Also, Trevor Lawrence was amazing in college, but it doesn't seem like he is doing all that well in the NFL. Sometimes being a college star doesn't always pay off.
I just watched 20min of Bryce Underwood “highlights” and there was no evidence that he can be an elite passer. 85% of the plays were designed QB runs. 10% were swing passes or under 15 air yds. I don’t understand the hype.

It did seem like some of the play calls lacked in the game, other than the last play of the game, obviously. However, coaches don't want to show their hand in the spring game, save some of the bigger plays for regular season games when they can actually catch other teams by surprise.
I’ve seen the future and it’s Bryce underwood #springgame

There is no doubt that the future of Michigan's future is Underwood, but when should that future be the starter? That is the question a lot of people are asking right now.
Bryce Underwood is such a baller. Having only been at Michigan for a few months, he's already outplayed Jadyn Davis who's been at Michigan for almost 2 years. He is the next great Michigan QB 〽️ pic.twitter.com/Xm65N0r97t

Underwood had a much better stat line than Davis had, and he has only been at Michigan for a few months.
My Michigan spring game reaction:
— Dennis Fithian (@dennisfithian) April 19, 2025
Bryce Underwood not that impressive but he’s 17.
Jadyn Davis struggled.
Big winner: Mikey Keene
This has to be the truest post of all the fan reactions. Underwood is only 17 years old and has only been at Michigan for a few months. He needs more time to develop, but can certainly get there with the talent he has.
While Michigan fans want to see Underwood under center next season, they also need to remember that a young quarterback needs to develop, and with the way the offensive line looked, it would be hard for such a young player to develop under so much pressure. Michigan has Mikey Keene, who has a lot fo college football experience and using him to start the year would not be a bad idea.
Stay patient, Michigan fans. Underwood can still be a generational talent, even if he isn't the starter come Week 1 of the 2025 season.
