Michigan football's annual Victors Weekend is already showing returns for the 2027 recruiting class. On Sunday, the top tight end target Christian Hanshaw committed to the Wolverines. Hanshaw, who is a three-star out of Utah, will take a two-year mission trip upon graduating high school, with plans to enroll at Michigan in 2029. That's promising for future tight end depth.
Hanshaw is a great compliment to Michigan's other tight end commit, Colt Lumpris. While Lumpris is more of a pass catcher who utilizes his size as a receiver, Hanshaw takes pride in blocking and is a very physical player. At 6'5 and 230 lbs, Hanshaw has the potential to be an impact player at the tight end position down the line. If he showcases more pass catching ability in his senior season, it's easy to envision him rising up the recruiting rankings.
Excited to announce my commitment to @UMichFootball ! Thank you to everyone who helped make this dream possible. @FWhittinghamJr @AliiNiumatalolo @Day1toD1@cavemanfootball @BrandonHuffman

Kyle Whittingham taps into Utah pipeline
Hanshaw is a recruit that tight ends coach Freddie Whittingham was extremely high on. Hanshaw was always a priority for the Wolverines, and landing him is a big win. It also shows that Michigan is going to continue to be very active in Utah, and it's great to see the Wolverines building a presence in the west.
Landing Hanshaw means that tight end recruiting is likely done for the 2027 class. Hanshaw is the first of the Victors Weekend visitors to commit, and he most definitely won't be the last. Keep an eye out for more commitments, as there will surely be more in the coming days.
Hanshaw is the 18th commitment in the 2027 class for the Wolverines. They have 13 blue-chip commitments and have been projected to land another blue-chip defender who visited on Victors Weekend,
Things are doing well for the Wolverines on the trail and it doesn't seem like they will slow down anytime soon.
