Western Michigan fans aren't going to want to see Michigan on the schedule ever again.

Not after the Broncos lost a heartbreaker to Michigan football on a Hail Mary pass from Bryce Underwood to JJ Buchanan, and especially not after the Wolverines broke the heart of Western Michigan again, with one second left, this time on the ice.

In a 2-2 game between top-5 teams at Yost Arena, the top-ranked Michigan hockey team got a goal from Will Horcoff with literally less than a second left on the clock to deliver the Wolverines a win in dramatic fashion, once again over Western Michigan, 3-2.

The shot went across the goal line with 0.1 seconds left, something you rarely see in a sport like hockey. Buzzer-beating scores are generally reserved for basketball, but against Western Michigan, Michigan fans have enjoyed, essentially, two walk-off victories.

The win was the third over a team ranked in the top five so far this season for the Michigan hockey team, which is fresh off a 2-0 sweep of Denver last weekend, the previous No. 1 team with a 4-1 win last Friday and a 4-3 win last Saturday.

Fifth-ranked Western Michigan was expected to be another test and it was. The Broncos grabbed the one-goal lead after scoring in the second period. Jayden Perron evened the score in the third, 44 seconds in. 31 seconds later, Dakoda Rheaume-Mullen found the back of the net, giving Michigan hockey a 2-1 lead.

Western tied the game at 2-2 with 11:45 left, setting the stage for Horcoff's heroic goal that improved Michigan's record to 7-0. Michigan will be off until next Saturday, when the Wolverines will play their first Big Ten opponent, Ohio State.

The Wolverines have reached the Frozen Four in four of the last five seasons. Michigan's last national championship was back in 1998.
