Michigan Basketball: 3 takeaways from the mighty Cleveland State win
By Nick Popio
3. Dusty May promises a packed Crisler Center in about a month
The new head man was quite pleased with how his team looked in the season opener. His old school passed the 100 point total twice in 2023, so to break that in mere hours of a fresh season is very telling. His squad's defensive effort was more of an outlier in the blowout.
After the win he exclaimed that the crowd was only about half full and that he'll give them a month until Crisler starts selling out. He said that because of how exciting and well balanced his team played and I gotta say that I agree with him. Cleveland State is no benchmark win by any means, but if they can beat Wake Forest on Sunday, people will take notice quickly.
The Demon Deacons only won by 15 and have another gear-up contest before they butt heads with Michigan basketball on Sunday. Usually, the Wolverines will have another warm-up for themselves before they go full-fledged into the Power Five matchup, but that isn't the case this go around. If you ask me, I think that is better for them because it will test the mettle of this group and see what they are made of. We'll learn whether or not Dusty May's first club is tournament-worthy or not in the next week and a half.
