Word broke on Wednesday that Michigan basketball has added another piece to its roster to chase a national title repeat.

According to Alejandro Zuniga the Wolverines have landed former Columbia guard Kenny Noland.

Rumors were swirling that the Wolverines were after Jamarques Lawrence from Nebraska, but they found someone who scored more points than Lawrence in college, but played outside of the power conferences.

There has been talk of a return by Roddy Gayle, too. That could still be on the table, but here's more on the All-Ivy League guard coming to Ann Arbor.

Kenny Noland transfers to Michigan

Michigan has found its LJ Cason replacement in Noland. The transfer averaged 17 points per game and was second-team All-Ivy League for the Lions. He was Columbia's leading scorer and led the team in scoring 16 times last season. His high mark was 28 against Dartmouth in a January win.

Noland can be a backup ball-hander to Elliot Cadeau and Trey McKenney and possibly even fill in if someone misses time because of injury. In July, Noland signed at contract to play overseas in Germany, but because of the five-year eligibility rule, Noland gets another shot to play at a big-time school.

Free-throw shooting was one of his best attributes. He was fifth in the nation at 92% and was perfect from the line in that January Dartmouth victory. He also racked up 126 steals as a Lion, which was good enough for fourth-best in Columbia's history. Noland was the second-leading scorer in all of the entire Ivy League.

Michigan basketball still has one roster spot left for a possible reunion with Roddy Gayle or someone else. However, getting a player of this caliber this late in the cycle is a tremendous job done by Mike Boynton and his staff.

The Wolverines have everything they need to compete for a repeat in its home state next spring.
