Matt Rhule says Nebraska's 38-point loss to Michigan football 'might not count'
Nebraska football head coach Matt Rhule is really going through it. The Huskers have the same record as Michigan football, sure, but the Wolverines won the national championship last season.
Rhule, who was supposed to turn Nebraska football around, has a 10-12 record in two seasons. The Huskers have lost four in a row and are in jeopardy of extending their streak without a bowl game to eight years, which, if it happens, would include 10 straight losses under Rhule when bowl eligiblity is at stake, which would tie an NCAA record.
Rhule is currently on an eight-game losing streak now in those games dating back to last season. Seven of those losses have come by one score (great coaching).
However, for some reason, the Nebraska head coach is still making excuses for a 45-7 beatdown Michigan football handed the Huskers in 2023, on their home field. Rhule said a Nebraska player, DeShon Singleton, was hurt in the game and suggested it was because of stolen signs.
Matt Rhule says 38-point Michigan football win might not count
Rhule also told the local media that he petitioned the NCAA for an extra year for Singleton, because "that game might not count in a couple of years." That's because Singleton's game against Michigan football was his fifth. Rhule is saying it shouldn't count so the kid only played four games that season and can redshirt.
"The NCAA disagreed," he added.
He also said: "It seems like whatever happened with Michigan last year, there is some cloak of whatever."
Maybe, if the Wolverines didn't destroy Nebraska in that game, what he said would make sense. Michigan football won by 38 points and ran for 249 yards. They also didn't do anything fancy.
Hell, Jim Harbaugh could have walked the offensive and defensive call sheets over to Matt Rhule, for the entire game, giving Nebraska every singe play call and Michigan football still wins by four touchdowns.
It's amazing that the two programs whining about "player safety" -- which is bogus because stealing signs was 100 percent legal anyway -- lost to Michigan by a combined score of 94-7.
Signs will be stolen especially if you don't do anything to defend your signs as Nebraska didn't seem to do, because, well, Rhule isn't a very good coach.
I don't blame the guy for searching for excuses but what he said Monday tells you all you need to know about how his career in Nebraska is likely to end.
