The offseason for college football can be a long one, especially in the summer months when it feels like the season is so close yet so far away. For the coaches, the summer months can almost be as busy as the regular season, well, almost. There really isn't a lot of downtime for coaches now in the college football offseason, so finding time to do fun things when they can is important.

Michigan head coach Kyle Whittingham has certainly done that, especially this past weekend. The Detroit Grand Prix for IndyCar racing was this past weekend, and as the new head coach for Michigan, Whittingham chose to attend and even got to lead the field to the green flag for the track in the best way possible.

At 66 years old, Whittingham found himself in the IndyCar two-seater deemed the "Fastest Seat in Sports." FOX even released a video of Whittingham speaking on the broadcast in the car, and he couldn't hear anything the announcers said, but fans certainly could hear how great of a time he was having.

"Let’s go!" Whittingham said on the FOX broadcast. “I can’t really hear you, but this is a hell of a deal. Whoo-hoo!"

Kyle Whittingham continues to keep himself busy before first season with Michigan

Kyle Whittingham was a little late to the offseason game with Michigan, taking the job in late December of 2025, just before Michigan played in its bowl game against Texas in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl. By the time Whittingham got into the offices and started working, he was a little behind other coaches working on their offseason.

That hasn't slowed Whittingham down one bit as he hit the ground running. Whittingham was quick to get with his players before spring ball so that everyone was on the same page. Better yet, Whittingham jumped right into the recruiting game for Michigan, working to build through the transfer portal and high school recruitment.

Since the end of spring ball, Whittingham has been hitting the high school recruiting trail hard, so a nice break was needed. With the big recruiting weekends coming up for Michigan in June, with a large haul of recruits coming in, the Michigan head coach deserved a break.

Michigan's biggest recruiting weekends are on the horizon for Kyle Whittingham

The month of June is going to be a very busy one for Whittingham and Michigan, as it is going to be the biggest recruiting weekend for the Wolverines. The middle of June will serve as the biggest official visit weekend for Michigan and the biggest chance for Whittingham to continue building the Class of 2027.

Not only will Michigan be hosting potential recruits who haven't committed, but also committed recruits whom Whittingham will look to flip. It is the biggest recruiting time for Michigan, especially before the 2026 season begins, and a time for the Wolverines to build for the future.
