One thing has become clear over the course of the 2024 Michigan football season: The Wolverines need to hit the transfer portal, hard.

There are bigger needs at some positions than others. Michigan football will need help on the defensive line and frankly, the offensive line after the disappointment of this season.

The defensive line could lose all four starters to the NFL draft. So reinforcements will be needed there. Wide receiver is another clear need. Michigan football hasn't recruited that well at the position, especially when it comes to adding bigger players and we have seen that this season.

It feels like the receivers are small. They also seem to struggle to get open. Amorion Walker had a nice third-down catch against Washington. He was wide open for a touchdown too if Jack Tuttle had just thrown him the ball instead of fumbling.

But there's no doubt that Michigan football needs to add some wide receivers in the transfer portal. One name to know is former Indiana wideout Donaven McCulley. The 6-foot-5, 200-pound former quarterback was Indiana's leading receiver in 2024 with 48 receptions for 644 yards and six touchdowns.

McCulley has been slowed by an injury this season and decided to take a redshirt. He also entered the transfer portal and Michigan football has been one of the teams to offer that's interested.

According to Matt Zenitz of 247 Sports, McCulley is expected to visit Michigan football next week for the night game against Michigan State. That's positive news and even though the transfer portal isn't open yet for commitments, it would be great for the Wolverines to grab the early lead with McCulley.

He's a proven Big Ten receiver with size. That's exactly what this offense needs so the Wolverines should keep making him a top priority because it's easy to see how valuable he'd be in the offense.
