Ohio State fans have spent all offseason talking.
They talked about how Michigan was irrelevant, how Ryan Day was going to have his first 16-0 season, and how the Buckeyes were going to blow the doors off Texas.
For much of Saturday night, that prediction looked good. Ohio State built a 23-3 lead on Arch Manning and the Texas Longhorns. Yet, after allowing three fourth-quarter touchdowns and missing a 45-yard field goal, Ohio State lost 24-23.
It was the Buckeyes third loss in their last four games dating back to last season. Ohio State has also dropped three in a row against ranked teams.
That's not unusual for most college football teams. Yet, Ohio State is different. Their fans tell us all the time.
Karma comes for the Buckeyes against Texas
Yet, the pattern of Ryan Day struggling in big games is starting to rear its ugly head again. The Buckeyes blew a fourth-quarter lead against Indiana in the Big Ten title game. They also missed a field goal in that game that proved costly, in addition to being outplayed by Miami in the College Football Playoff.
Watching Ohio State lose to Texas was particularly satisfying. Buckeye fans mocked Michigan football all week, saying the Wolverines lost to Western Michigan, even though the final score was 13-12 Michigan, and talked about how Oklahoma was going to roll in Ann Arbor.
Not every Buckeye fan, but enough of them. Even though their team was playing in a top-five matchup, Ohio State fans did nothing but make fun of Michigan last week.
After the Wolverines defeated 11th-ranked Oklahoma, and the Buckeyes blew a 20-point lead hours later, the conversation has shifted back to how much Ryan Day's buyout is. Yes, some Ohio State fans seriously asked that question, as silly as that is.

Even if Ohio State had beaten Texas, it was still hilarious to see so many Michigan haters proven wrong. Brandon Walker of Barstool predicted Oklahoma to win the game 52-6. Everyone on Big Noon Kickoff predicted a Michigan loss, but Charles Woodson.
It's easy to see why. Maybe Western Michigan is actually just a good team. Maybe the Wolverines also had an off night against a good team that was really motivated. It was a perfect storm that Michigan survived.
One week later, it beat its first-ranked opponent since beating Ohio State in 2024 and gave Michigan fans a Saturday they won't soon forget.
