No doubt about it. Rivalries are what make college football what it is. In the day and age where everybody and their brother hits the transfer portal at the first sign of adversity, there are others such as Jeremiah Smith who unpacked their bags and set up shop at their respective schools a long time ago. Unfortunately for Michigan, that school just so happens to be their biggest rival in Ohio State...
While he has no reason to speak highly of Michigan, why is he going out of his way to degrade them?
"No, I don't like nothing about them."
Truthfully, Smith might have been goaded into answer this question like this, but that is not the point!

All the while, Michigan fans will have yet another reason to not like someone from an Ohio university...
While Ohio State got the upper hand last year, Smith already has one loss to Michigan on his resume.
Jeremiah Smith has added more fuel to the Michigan-Ohio State fire
Let's make one thing clear. If Ohio State were to lose at home this season to Michigan, that would be quite the upset. Ohio State is as sure of a lock to make the College Football Playoff as anyone, while Michigan hopes to crack the top-12 this fall under new head coach Kyle Whittingham. His arrival from Utah may be exactly what Michigan needs to get over the top and back in control of this rivalry series.
After two seasons of whatever we want to define the Sherrone Moore era of Wolverines football as, Michigan finally has a head coach of caliber back leading the program. Utah may not be as dominant as others across the country, but Whittingham won a ton of games over in the Pac-12 and Big 12 the last two decades. Whittingham came to Michigan for a few key reasons. One is to beat Ohio State...
While Whittingham may have a connection to Ohio State through his mentor Urban Meyer, it was the former Buckeyes head coach who gave him the assurances that taking this job would be in his best interest. Clearly, the best players at Ohio State no longer respect their biggest rival. Whenever that happens, prepare for that party to eventually become disappointed, whenever that day might arise.
Overall, it might have just been a off-hand comment from Smith. However, when arguably the most talented player in college football wakes up and does not respect you, that has to land a certain way. Now is the time for Whittingham, his staff, and all their players to come together for one big purpose. If they do win in The Horseshoe in late November, it could shake up the playoff picture considerably.
A win over Ohio State could be what gets the Wolverines back into the 12-team field. They need to beat Oklahoma at home, as well as take one against their three hardest Big Ten opponents this year in Indiana, Oregon, and Ohio State. As for the Buckeyes, a stunning home loss to the Wolverines may keep them out of Indianapolis. It has been a very long time since the Buckeyes last won the Big Ten...
At this time, let's hope Michigan continues to put in the work to get better, while collecting receipts...
