The 13th-ranked Michigan women's basketball team improved to 2-0 on Sunday with an 84-55 win over Harvard.
It was a solid effort before a massive test next week against Notre Dame next Saturday. Michigan women's basketball is 2-0 with two easy wins. The Wolverines have looked sharp so far despite the competition.
Let’s dive in and give out some grades for the Wolverines win over Harvard.
Offense: B
The Wolverines shot 55% from the field and 40% from three. They went 63% from the free throw line which isn’t ideal but it clearly didn’t hurt them in this one. The 20 turnovers are concerning but there was enough offense and defense to offset the turnovers. Olivia Olson had another good game with 18 points on 6 of 9 shooting. Mila Holloway had 17 and Syla Swords 14. Michigan had 26 bench points.
Defense: A
The Wolverines limited Harvard to 32% shooting and just 15% from three. They had 10 steals and forced 26 turnovers. They also limited Harvard’s bench to 11 points. Three players did reach double figures but the key is Michigan held Harvard to eight points in the first quarter. Michigan held the edge in rebounds 36-34.
Coaching: A
Michigan executed minus the turnovers and missed free throws, two things Kim Barnes Arico will surely address before the next game.
Overall: A
Michigan won’t be able to turn the ball over 20 times against the Fighting Irish (No. 15). Clean that up and hit a few more free throws, and Michigan should be 3-0.
