A Michigan high school quarterback commit just got himself a new offensive coordinator for his high school team, and it seems to be a dream come true for the young star. Utah quarterback Cam Rising, who spent an unprecedented seven years playing college football just recently announced he was medically retiring from the sport and has taken a new job as a high school offensive coordinator.
Rising took the offensive coordinator position at his old high school, Newbury Park High School in California, the same high school that Brady Smigiel currently attends. Smigiel just recently announced his commitment to Michigan for the Class of 2026 and now will be coached by a former college football player, one whom he has looked up to for years now.
Smigiel has even admitted to choosing to wear the No. 7 to honor Rising. The young quarterback even posted a video on X (formerly known as Twitter) welcoming Rising back to his old school with a few clips of the two working together on the field.

"I literally couldn’t have a better scenario, having my role model my entire life growing up to be my offensive coordinator and quarterback coach," Smigiel said of Rising being his offensive coordinator.
Smigiel is currently the No. 80 prospect in the Class of 2026 and the No. 7-ranked quarterback in the class. The young California native could learn a couple of things in his final year of high school football from a quarterback who took the Utes to two Rose Bowls in his seven years in college football.
Smigiel will be stepping into quite the quarterback pipeline at Michigan when he sets foot on campus in 2026. The Wolverines have shown they know how to bring in a quarterback, flipping No. 1 overall 2025 recruit Bryce Underwood from LSU this past season, who is now expected to be the starter for Michigan this next season.
