The Michigan running back room is filled with transfer portal players after a good portion of the Wolverines hit the transfer portal themselves at the end of the 2024 season. The final domino standing that wore the Maize and Blue last season at the running back position, Benjamin Hall, surprised everyone by entering the transfer portal last week and has now decided where he will play next.

Hall has announced that he will wear a lighter shade of blue next season as he plans to play for the UNC Tar Heels under new head coach Bill Belichick.

Hall's entrance into the transfer portal just days after media availability was shocking to most of the fanbase, especially with him most likely being the No. 3 back in rotation. While Hall would not have gotten the most playing time, he probably would have still gotten more than he has in the last two years.

In his two seasons with the Wolverines, Hall has just 44 carries for 141 yards and no touchdowns, and just 12 receiving yards. With Michigan bringing in Alabama running back Justice Haynes, John Volker from Princeton, adn CJ Hester from UMass, Hall must have felt he was not going to get the playing time he wanted and felt like he deserved.

As the only Michigan running back in the running back room who played in a Wolverine uniform last season, Hall could have felt the starting job should have been his, but Haynes comes to Michigan after being Alabama's leading back last season with 448 rushing yards and seven touchdowns as well as 99 receiving yards.

Hall making the move to North Carolina makes sense as they don't have a No. 1 back yet, so he will be able to compete for the starting position under Belichick. However, this is still big for Michigan, as the running back room is pretty thin.
