Like the last recruiting cycle, Michigan football is off to a slow start on the trail. Things didn't begin to heat up until Summer official visits, and it appears that the same thing is going to happen this year.
One big time recruit that Michigan is trending up for is five star EDGE, Carter Meadows. Meadows, a DC native, goes to high school at Gonzaga College, an elite educational and football school. Gonzaga has been generous to Michigan, most recently sending safety Kainoa Winston to Ann Arbor last year.
Meadows officially announced a final four of Michigan, Ohio State, South Carolina, and Penn State. Meadows plans to officially visit all four this Summer before announcing his commitment. The general consensus is that Michigan and Penn State are the two favorites, with Michigan being the perceived leader.
This is a recruitment that seems similar to Andrew Babalola's last year. Meadows is a kid who truly values the academic side of things and isn't just looking for the best NIL deal. Obviously, Michigan still gave Babalola an NIL package, but it wasn't a bidding war. Meadows truly cares about his life after football, and that's a huge positive for Michigan in this recruitment.
Michigan football will likely sweeten things up on the NIL side during Meadows' official visit. Meadows is a prospect that Michigan can land, and honestly, he's a prospect the Wolverines need to land.
Michigan desperately needs some big commitments to regain its momentum, and Meadows would be a tremendous addition. While you can never be too confident in the recruitment of a five-star recruit at a premium position, Michigan is in a good spot with Meadows. Stay tuned for any updates.
