Even Urban Meyer couldn't deny the brilliance of Michigan hiring Kyle Whittingham

Kyle Whittingham was a great hire for Michigan. Even Urban Meyer agrees.

Despite the terrible situation that Sherrone Moore put Michigan football in the Wolverines actually ended up being better off because of it, thanks to Kyle Whittingham.

There actually isn't a better description for what Michigan football was able to do than the way former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer put it this week, saying the Wolverines "fell into the perfect guy."

Isn't it nice when life works out that way?

Meyer had more to say in an interview with On3 about Michigan football hiring his former assistant coach with the Utah Utes:

“I’m a Buckeye, so my first thought was, ‘What?’" Meyer said to Chris Low on On3. "He’s my friend. Kyle and I are really close, but it didn’t take long for me to put two and two together. Not only did I tell him that I think it was a great move, but it was exactly what that school in Ann Arbor needed."

Meyer is right about one thing

Whittingham is exactly what Michigan football needed. The Wolverines lost Jim Harbaugh to the NFL, and the program clearly took a step back under Moore. He did land Bryce Underwood, but his development during his freshman season left a lot to be desired.

Moore does deserve credit for recruiting a talented roster. Now, the adults in the room can do the rest of the work, led by Whittingham, who will have the most talented roster he's ever had.

It will be interesting to see what Whittingham can do with a program like Michigan, which won the national championship just three years ago. Jordan Marshall said Whittingham has the "it factor."

We'll see what that means on the field, but Whittingham sure feels like the guy to bring Michigan back to the level of national title contention.
