To be fair, Michigan football quarterback Bryce Underwood is one of the biggest unknowns in all of college football.

We know that he's incredibly gifted and talented. He's 6-foot-4, 228 pounds, and throws the ball a mile, and has the speed to be compared to Vince Young.

Underwood is the ideal quarterback specimen. He can literally do it all. But will he able to do it all for Michigan football right away? That's the question and at least one ESPN analyst is skeptical about his impact in year one.

"I just always have a hard time, Greg. I have a hard time finding a true freshman quarterback that can not only wow us, but in a power program like Michigan, from day one to day and game 14, 15, 16 nowadays, be the guy that elevates them back to the national championship conversation," ESPN analyst Matt Barrie said on a recent podcast with Greg McElroy.

Doubt Bryce Underwood at your own risk

It's understandable why Barrie and others would have doubts about Underwood. But, according to Jack Tuttle, a former Michigan football quarterback, who spent time around Underwood when he first arrived, said his talent exceeds that of even Trevor Lawrence or Justin Fields, even J.J. McCarthy.

People forget about Underwood's dual-threat ability. I also don't see the onus being completely on him. The offense will probably be similar to the Michigan offense from 2021. It will be different with Chip Lindsey, but the Wolverines will protect their quarterback.

They will find ways to help him find success early, and as the season goes on, watch out.
