It is a great possibility that if Michigan basketball beats UC San Diego we'll see a matchup between Yale and the Wolverines for a spot in the Sweet 16.
Now you might ask yourself: How can Yale beat Texas A&M?
According to ESPN Analytics, the Aggies are the worst 3-point shooting team in the SEC. They also struggle to defend the 3 and are vulnerable to opponents who rebound well.
On the other hand, ESPN Analytics also says, "The Bulldogs play a smart brand of basketball and they shoot the ball well, don't turn it over, grab offensive rebounds and prevent second chances on the defensive end. Perhaps most notably, they play a pack-line style defense that forces teams to shoot from behind the arc on nearly 50% of their attempts, the highest rate among teams in the NCAA tournament.
This insists that this is a great matchup for the Bulldogs as Texas A&M will be forced to beat them with their weakness of scoring the three.
Yale is also a great shooting team and going up against a team who struggles to defend their strength, could be a recipe of success to pull off the upset.
Who says they can't do it again? The Bulldogs stunned Auburn last year in the first round as a 13 seed. Practically the same Auburn team who is now the number one overall seed in this years tournament.
If the Bulldogs can play to their strength of shooting the ball well and Michigan basketball can take care of the ball and limit turnovers which have been an issue all year for them, I believe we could see the two schools advance and matchup next round.
