It once again feels like the search for the next Michigan football head coach is in a holding pattern.
It feels like the Wolverines are on Jeff Brohm watch. Brohm, the Louisville head coach, coached his team to a win in the Boca Raton Bowl, giving the Cardinals a third straight nine-win season under Brohm.
In three seasons with Louisville, Brohm is 28-12. He's also got wins over No. 10 Notre Dame back in 2023, No. 2 Miami in 2025, and 11th-ranked Clemson in 2024. Brohm has actually beaten Miami twice since taking over as the Louisville head coach.
A segment of Michigan football fans believe that Brohm would be a terrible hire, although some suggested similar things about Dusty May. Brohm shouldn't be viewed as an underwhelming candidate at all. Generally, you want a coach to have success at lesser programs before you give him a job like Michigan, and Brohm has done well at three separate programs, two in Power-4 leagues.
Jeff Brohm is a proven winner
In his last five seasons as a Power-4 head coach at Louisville and Purdue, Brohm has won 68 percent of his games, played for two conference titles, had four nine-win seasons, and beaten seven ranked opponents.
However, all the debate about Brohm could be for not.
Brohm has been negotiating a contract extension with Louisville since the end of the season. He was even mentioned as a candidate for Penn State before pulling out. Brohm seems interested. Things seem to be picking up, and now that his season is over, Michigan football should make its move.
Jesse Minter doesn't want the job. Kenny Dillingham stayed at Arizona State. Kalen DeBoer seems off the table, and so does Jedd Fisch.
Brohm feels like one of the best options left. Yet, like Dillingham, Brohm played for Louisville. That's his alma mater and this might just be a ploy to get more resources.
Michigan is Michigan. But this doesn't feel like a slam dunk, which could be a good or bad thing, based on your perspective of Jeff Brohm.
