Michigan football has been searching for its next head coach. After Kenny Dillingham re-signed with Arizona State and Alabama beat Oklahoma last week, the Wolverines have started to move down their list of candidates.
One name that figured to be on that list is former Michigan football defensive coordinator Jesse Minter, who coordinated the Wolverines' national championship defense in 2023.
After that, Minter followed former Michigan football head coach Jim Harbaugh to the NFL. He has been the Chargers' defensive coordinator for the past two seasons. The Chargers are 11-4, and Minter is one of the hottest names on the NFL coaching market.
Minter could become an NFL head coach as early as this offseason. That's why, according to Football Scoop, Minter wouldn't accept the Michigan football job.
Jesse Minter is another name to cross off the list for Michigan
Honestly, that shouldn't surprise Michigan football fans. Minter will be an NFL head coach. It's only a matter of time. He's an elite defensive coordinator, but if he wanted the Michigan job, he probably could have had it after that 2023 season.
It was always clear that Minter belonged in the NFL. As far as Michigan is concerned, Jeff Brohm is one of the hot coaching candidates right now, although he's coaching at his alma mater and could wind up staying just like Kenny Dillingham did with Arizona State.
Either way, Minter is another head coach who can be crossed off the list. Michigan might have a head coach in place this week, which would probably be Jeff Brohm, or this thing will stretch into next week.
