As soon as it was announced that Michigan was hiring Kyle Whittingham, 5-star quarterback Bryce Underwood made it seem like he was pretty dang fired up about the move. Surely this would silence all of the transfer portal rumors that have been flying around, right?

Utah insider said what Michigan fans are thinking about Kyle Whittingham getting hired

Well, not so fast. While Underwood indeed is happy that Whittingham has been brought in to take over for the fired Sherrone Moore, it doesn't mean he's a lock to return to Ann Arbor next season. While speaking with the media on Saturday, Underwood sure made it seem like the door has been opened for him to play elsewhere next campaign:

Bryce Underwood's latest comments sure have Michigan fans worried

So, Underwood is going to talk things over with his family after Michigan's bowl game? This could be a case where the elite QB just wants to sit down with Whittingham and learn about his plans for the future. It'd make sense for the QB and his family to want to do that.

However, it's just a little concerning for the Michigan faithful that Underwood is unsure about what he wants to do. When he originally flipped from LSU to Michigan and signed with the Wolverines, UM supporters dreamed of Underwood getting this team back to the CFP and competing for titles.

Now, though, there's serious worry that he could decide to enter the transfer portal and say goodbye to Michigan. If Underwood does decide to leave town, LSU is immediately going to jump out as a potential landing spot now that Lane Kiffin has taken over for the fired Brian Kelly.

Michigan and Texas are all set to face off next Wednesday in the Citrus Bowl. Win or lose, all eyes are going to be on Underwood as he gets ready to make a big decision. Will he end up staying to work to build his Big Ten legacy with Michigan? That's what fans are hoping for.
