Biff Poggi's message about incoming Michigan head coach Kyle Whittingham is quite spot on here.

Against all odds, the Michigan Wolverines somehow found a way to make the very best of a bad situation. With Sherrone Moore out in Ann Arbor very late into the coaching carousel due to scandal, Michigan had to hit the reset button multiple times to find the right next head coach for them. While it could have been interim head coach Biff Poggi, the powers at be landed on Kyle Whittingham of Utah.

Give Poggi a ton of credit by sharing this fantastic message about Whittingham over social media.

"Michigan Football is in GREAT hands under Kyle Whittingham !!!! Proven winner, true gentleman, tough nosed Michigan coach of days gone by. Great hire by Warde Manuel. The kids will love him. Exciting days ahead for Michigan. We have work to do over next five days. Texas is excellent. GoBlue"

Whittingham is a hall-of-fame-level head coach from his two-decade long run leading the Utah Utes.

He first became available because Utah kind of, sort of, pushed him out in favor of his mentee in defensive coordinator, turned head coach Morgan Scalley. Way back in 2005, Whittingham was promoted from within to replace Urban Meyer, who was on his way to Florida. Whittingham played his college football at BYU in the 80s, but his brand of ball fits Michigan perfectly. This should work out...

Over the last decade or so, Utah has kind of always been the equivalent of Michigan light over in SLC.

Biff Poggi praises the Kyle Whittingham hire over him as Michigan's coach

It takes a man bigger than most of us to acknowledge that even though you may want the job, you might not be the best candidate for it. What Michigan needed more than anything in the world was a proven head coach who had no ties to Jim Harbaugh. The best pathway forward for the Wolverines is to start anew with a good, moral foundation to get back to the basics of what makes Michigan great.

While most of us believed that the 66-year-old Utah lifer was going to close out his illustrious coaching career leading the Utes, life does not always go according to plan. In truth, it has a funny way of working things out. Scalley had been groomed to replace Whittingham for years now. Athletic director Mark Harlan has had his finger in the trigger for far too long. He was bound to pull it anyway.

For Michigan, the Wolverines are getting one of the best defensive minds in the business. More importantly, Whittingham has shown a proclivity with surrounding himself with high-end offensive talent. Yes, he could have road off into the sunset, but getting to lead Michigan in the twilight of his career in this transitional period for the program feels like such a tremendous tone-setter for them.

Michigan hiring Whittingham is not a stop-gap maneuver, but rather a building block. Poggi knows it...
