Beers, Bets and Bites for Michigan vs. Wisconsin

The Michigan Wolverines welcome the Wisconsin Badgers to the Big House on Saturday for a Big Ten showdown. The game kicks off at noon and we have an easy recipe to put on the grill afterwards along with a great beer to wash it down with and a prop bet to put some money in your pocket.

Gameday Recipe: Smashburger Sliders

Smash burger sliders are one of my favorite gameday meals for any occassion. They are easy, delicious and so many different ways you can make them.

Ingredients:

Wagyu Beef

Martin's Potato Roll

Cheese

Onion

Other options include lettuce, tomato, bacon, jalapeno, onion rings or any else you like to top your burger with!

Recipe:

1. Roll your wagyu beef into balls and place them on a tray. You can weigh them out for exact size but I like to just eyeball them. Costco American Raised Wagyu Beef is a great option.

2. After you have rolled them into individual balls, smash them down into ultra thin patties. If you don't have a flat press, you can use a small plate, a spatula or anything else in your kitchen. After the burgers have been smashed, season them with salt and pepper. Do not be afraid to put a good amount of salt on them.

3. Slice up your toppings to get them ready to put on once your burgers are done cooking. If you aren't smashing onions into your patties, caramelizing them on the stove top is a great pairing with the burger.

4. Start your grill and throw your burgers on. They are going to cook through very fast, so flip them after about a minute or so and add your cheese. I like a sharp cheddar but use any cheese of your choice. If you want to make these traditional smash burgers, you can wait to smash them until you put them on the grill and smash the onions into them. This can be done on a griddle or a cast iron.

5. Take your burgers off and add all of your toppings and you are ready to eat!

6. Bonus Mac Sauce Recipe:

1/2 cup mayo, diced pickle chips, 1 tbsp pickle juice, 1/4 grated yellow onion, 2 tsp yellow mustard, 1/4 tsp paprika, 1/2 tsp onion powder, 1/4 tsp fine sea salt, 1/4 tsp garlic powder, pinch of cayenne. Mix all of this together and spread on your bun for a delicious addition!

Beer of the Week: Stella Artois

Stella is the perfect classic beer for a classic recipe and a classic Big Ten rivalry. Stella is a crisp Belgian pilsner with an ABV of 5.2%. They aren't too heavy so you can enjoy a few of them during the game.

Prop Bet of the Week: Bryce Underwood over 180 passing yards at -111

Sherrone Moore said one of the team's main focuses over the bye week was to work on catching the ball. The receiving core has had far too many drops this season and that will need to change if they want a chance to contend for a Big Ten Championship. Wisconsin's defense ranks among one of the nation's best at defending the run. The defense ranks fourth nationally at 2.1 opponent yards per rush and second nationally in opponent total rushing yards at 50 per game. However, their passing defense does not stack up so favorably. They are 71st in opponent completion percentage and 74th in opponent passing yards per game. I also like the Michigan tight ends coming off a bye week with a chance to get healthy. Hogan Hansen and Marlin Klein should both be factors if they're able to play. I'm looking for a big performance from the Michigan passing game and the entire Michigan offense tomorrow. Go Blue!
