Betting odds don't mean everything, especially when it comes to a head-coaching search. In fact, they can mean a whole lot of nothing.

However, the oddsmakers are good at what they do for a reason, and right now, one candidate is trending with the oddsmakers to become the next Michigan football head coach.

One coach is trending for Michigan job

That man is Kenny Dillingham. Dillingham has become the popular pick on the peer betting market, with a large chunk of people betting on him to be the Wolverines' next head coach.

Vegas oddsmakers have also made Dillingham a favorite (-250) to be the next head coach. Kalen DeBoer is the next best option at +250, followed by Jedd Fisch at +350. It has always felt like it would be one of those three candidates, although Jason Eck (New Mexico) and Jeff Brohm (Louisville) would also be quality hires.

National analysts such as Josh Pate and Steve Wilftong have lobbied for Dillingham to get the job. JD Pickell has done the same. All of those guys work for On3.

However, their reasoning makes sense. Dillingham has had success with quarterbacks everywhere he's gone. He won a conference championship with Arizona State. His team also pushed Texas in the College Football Playoff to overtime, despite a clear difference in talent.

DeBoer already has an elite job. His team is in the middle of a playoff run, and it feels like having to wait until after a playoff game against Oklahoma might be too long. Some Michigan football players and coaches have started to follow Dillingham, including Bryce Underwood on social media. He might have followed him already. The point is, it feels like he could resonate with the players and keep the roster together.

Hell, it feels like this could be a playoff team next season with Dillingham as the head coach. If he's the choice, it could also come as soon as next week.

It does feel like it's DeBoer or Dillingham, even though we are just two days into it, but Michigan doesn't have time to dawdle. There are other solid options, yet if the oddsmakers are correct in their current assumptions, Dillingham will be the guy, and it might not be long.
