Fresh off winning the National Championship, it has come as no surprise that the success hasn't exactly slowed down for the Michigan Wolverines and head coach Dusty May.
With the No. 2 recruiting class of 2026, which only seems to improve with every given day, and a transfer portal class that continues to take shape, the Wolverines are primed for their winning ways for yet another season.
Now, according to Rivals' Joe Tipton, May and his staff have set their sights on what's to come: the class of 2027.
Michigan aiming big, schedules OV for Obinna Ekezie Jr.
More specifically, Michigan is reportedly targeting five-star big man Obinna Ekezie Jr., a 7-foot center in the upcoming recruiting class.
Tipton shared that Ekezie set an official visit with the Wolverines for April 25, possibly penciling in the first big-time pickup for Michigan's class of 2027.
Ekezie is the No. 2 overall prospect and the No. 1 center in the class, and has already garnered a lot of interest from across the country, including offers from fellow Big Ten programs like Maryland, Ohio State, Oregon, and more.
According to 247Sports, Ekezie is leaning toward the Maryland Terrapins so far, but there is more than a year remaining in his recruiting process, giving the Wolverines plenty of time to lure him in their direction.
So far, May has yet to receive a commitment from the class of 2027, but just closed out his No. 2 class of 2026, highlighted by four-star forward Quinn Costello and four-star guard Joseph Hartman.
Not to mention, the Wolverines only lost two players to the transfer portal after the National Championship, and added J.P. Estrella to the depth chart.

May's offseason work is far from finished, still recruiting players out of the portal and putting his finishing touches on his class of 2026. However, kicking off his class of 2027 commitments with a five-star player like Ekezie would be, quite literally, huge for the program.
