Michigan found something with Orji

Speaking or Orji, maybe the most important lesson from the Michigan State game is that maybe, finally, Michigan football has figured out how to use Alex Orji.

The Wolverines didn't go to the Orji package very often but went they did, it was effective. Orji ripped off a 29-yard run in the third quarter which was the longest play of the game. It was the only gain of more than 20 yards that wasn't the trick play (Edwards pass).

Michigan football used the advantage of the extra blocker you get when you run the quarterback instead of having him hand off.

Orji converted a touchdown in a goal-to-go situation and was able to run when everyone knew Michigan was running it. He had a 15-yard run (the second longest of the game), plus an eight-yard first down run to clinch the win.

Michigan needs to expand on that package and lean into it over the next month. It also makes you wonder where it was the last month because the coaching staff should have been running this stuff from day one.
