A valiant effort falls short

It feels like Michigan football will put forth an inspired effort on Saturday. This team can keep its playoff hopes on life support with a win, plus this season would have an entirely different feel to it with a win over the No. 1 team.

There's no overstating what this win would do for Michigan football. But the Wolverines are a two-touchdown underdog for a reason. Warren has been too inconsistent. The running game has been too.

Still, Michigan's defense is legit. The Wolverines will hang around for four quarters because of that and the running game. But the second half on defense will look like the second half against USC. Gabriel will get going and Michigan won't be able to keep up unless it gets 2-3 takeaways.

Davis Warren might even make a mistake or two trying to force something in the second half. Michigan football will cover the spread but it would be stunning to see them win outright.

Prediction: Oregon 31, Michigan 20
