Michigan has shown a commitment to running back depth for years to come with the move head coach Kyle Whittingham has made on the recruiting trail. While Whittingham wasn't the coach who landed five-star running back Savion Hiter for Michigan, his skill and ability to run the ball are ones that Wolverines fans can't wait to see.
After dealing with multiple injuries to running backs last season, Michigan fans are hoping to never be in that situation again for a long time, and clearly, Whittingham is too. The new Michigan Man brought in some big talent in the Class of 2027 in the running back room, including four-star recruit Tyson Robinson.
Robinson is joined by a fellow running back in the 2027 recruiting class, three-star recruit Lundon Hampton. The hype around Robinson, though, is growing, and his latest workout video will only make Michigan fans even more ready to see him on the field in college.

Tyson Robinson can add to Michigan's elite rushing brand with electric play style
Michigan has been an offense known for its rushing ability for quite some time now. Even when the Wolverines won the National Championship back in 2023, they rushed for 2,536 total yards and scored 40 rushing touchdowns compared to throwing for 3,204 passing yards and scoring 24 passing touchdowns.
The ground game has always been a good friend to the Wolverines, and even with Kyle Whittingham and Jason Beck bringing a new look to this offense, the run game shouldn't be forgotten. With a talented running back like Hiter, the ground game should still be essential for the Wolverines, even with talented quarterback Bryce Underwood.
Whittingham is proving he isn't letting go of the run power dominance with the work he has done on the recruiting trail. Tyson Robinson has the chance to be a top running back in college football, even though he wasn't the highest-rated rusher in his class.
Robinson broke out in his sophomore season, rushing for 1,295 yards and 24 rushing touchdowns, and was active in the passing game with 668 receiving yards and 10 receiving touchdowns. Even with an injury in his junior year and sitting for four games, Robinson still finished with 1,050 rushing yards, 295 receiving yards, and nine total touchdowns.
The production went down from 2024 to 2025, probably a big reason for not being one of the higher-ranked backs in the 2027 class, but injury could have played a big role in that. The workout video above, though, shows Robinson could be back in his 2024 form and ready to break out for his senior season.
Michigan would love to see Robinson totally dominant in his final year of high school ball, building momentum for his time with the Wolverines shortly after. Robinson's footwork and speed in the video above are something Michigan fans will go crazy for, especially with the possibility of his teaming up with Hiter in college.
Hiter is the tough back who is willing to just barrel his way through defenders, while Robinson could be the speed back who can take off once he hits the second level on the field. Either way, the run game seems very secure at Michigan behind both of these backs, and Whittingham isn't done yet building that position.
