Michigan is an elite team
The Wolverines scored 1.54 points per possession. According to Dylan Burkhardt of UM Hoops, that's the first time Michigan has done that since the 2013-14 season, when they won the Big Ten regular-season title.
It's only one game but that's exactly how you would expect a top-10 team to play. Oakland isn't a bottom-feeder either. The Golden Grizzlies are coached by the longest-tenured head coach in men's college basketball, Greg Kampe. They are among the favorites in the Horizon.
They were good enough to make it somewhat interesting. They didn't. Michigan's last two games against Oakland were 10-point wins. As a 23-point favorite, a 10 or 15-point win wouldn't have been that crazy. It was the season-opening game with three new starters and five new players in the rotation.
It would have been understandable if the start was a bit clunky. Instead, Michigan played like a well-oiled machine. The scoring just didn't stop. Defensively, things could have been better. Surely, they will be against better teams in a more competitive game.
However, it's hard not to feel like this is Michigan's most talented team in over a decde. Michigan has only played one game, but it reinforced the idea that every goal is on the table this season.
